Emergency Savings Accounts for Remittance Receivers in Mexico
This project, undertaken by researchers at the Jameel Poverty Action Lab, evaluates an emergency savings account service offered by the Caja Nacional del Sureste in four regions of Oaxaca, Mexico.
The savings account is designed to serve the needs of remittance clients, among whom use of savings services is generally low. The account, called "Secure Future," encourages savings for unforeseen circumstances; the clients allocate a designated portion of their remittance to be deposited as savings at every transaction.
The survey will collect data on socio-economic indicators, savings behavior, and welfare implications.
