Impact of Rural Banking Program on Savings, Consumption Smoothing, and Intra-Household Resource Allocation in Kenya

Impact of Rural Banking Program on Savings, Consumption Smoothing, and Intra-Household Resource Allocation in Kenya

From the project overview, Poverty Action Lab: "This project randomly provides one of 3 types of savings accounts to a group of daily income earners in Western Kenya: standard savings accounts, commitment accounts that include daily savings targets, and health accounts which are used specifically to save towards health shocks. We assess the impact of the accounts on savings and risk-coping through the use of daily logbooks kept by respondents. The logbooks allow us to examine the impact of the accounts on savings and risk-coping, as well as on intra-household resource allocation."
